Lincolnshire’s countryside is under threat. Vast swathes of productive farmland—over 30,000 acres—are being lost to industrial-scale solar developments clustering around our villages and communities. These projects, some as large as entire cities, will cover our landscape with solar panels up to 4.5 meters high, changing the character of our county forever.

A County Sacrificed
Lincolnshire has more solar applications than anywhere else in the country, making it a sacrificial lamb for these developments. The proposed solar farms include:

• Heckington Fen

• Cottam Solar

• Tillbridge Solar

• Gate Burton

• West Burton Solar

• Fosse Green

• Springwell

• Beacon Fen

• Leoda Solar Farm

• Meridian Solar

• Mallard Pass

• One Earth Solar

• Steeple Renewables

And more keep coming, with GNR Solar and others pushing for additional sites across the county. These projects will consume prime agricultural land that should be used to grow food and sustain our rural economy.

The Truth About Solar’s Inefficiency
Solar farms may sound like a good idea, but the reality is they are one of the least efficient ways to generate power:

• Solar only produces about 10% of its rated capacity over a year.

• A 500MW solar farm requires a massive 2,500 acres of land and contributes just 0.15% to the national grid.

• If the UK continues on this path, 600,000 acres of land—4% of our nation’s croppable farmland—could be lost to solar farms.

And yet, 600,000 acres of unused industrial rooftops remain untapped for solar panels. Why destroy productive farmland when there are better alternatives?
